Spend a month (or more) in your dream destination without overthinking, breaking the bank, or waiting for retirement
The Beginner's Guide to Mini-Retirements
Written for elite professionals by an elite professional.
What is a “Mini-Retirement”?
A mini-retirement is more than an extended vacation.
It’s spending a month (or more) in your dream destination doing anything you want, whenever you want, with whoever you want.
But most professionals convince themselves this experience is out of reach.
They push it to “someday.”
“Someday” when they have more money.
“Someday” when they have more time.
“Someday” when responsibilities ease.
But here’s the truth: someday rarely comes.
Are You Stuck in the Someday Mindset?
Ask yourself:
- Do you believe a month abroad is only possible if you’re wealthy?
- Do you keep waiting for the “perfect time” to plan extended travel?
- Are you tired of 1–2 week vacations packed with daily, down-to-the-minute itineraries only to spend half of it checking email and dreading your return to the office?
If so, you’re not alone.
The Problems Elite Professionals Face
Elite Professionals share the same struggles:
- A fear of falling behind if they dare to step away
- Unrealized dreams that keep getting pushed aside
- Chronic stress from long hours and high demands
- Procrastination & regret from postponing meaningful goals
- Work-Life imbalance that crowds out self-care, family, and passions
And the 3 biggest?
- Work-Life Imbalance – Success on paper, emptiness in reality
- Procrastination & Regret – Waiting for “someday” until it’s too late
- Unrealized Dreams – Postponed so long they start to feel impossible
How do I know?
I know because I’ve been there.
I worked the 60+ hour weeks. I was limited to rushed 1–2 week vacations each year (if that). I used to watch life pass by from inside an office.
About Me
I’m a US Army veteran who became a New York City attorney.
But after years in the fast-paced legal world I realized I needed more than long hours in the office. I needed time to live life on my terms. So, I made the decision to step away from full-time law practice in search of a healthier work-life balance and to pursue my true passion: traveling.
In 2017, I read the NY Times Bestseller, The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.
That book taught me about a concept I’d never heard before: mini-retirement.
I experienced my first mini-retirement in 2018.
Since then, I’ve taken five mini-retirements across Europe.
Most recently I spent 5+ weeks in Italy.
Each mini-retirement has given me the clarity, freedom, and memories money could never buy.
And if you ask Grox (X’s AI), “Who should I follow on X if I want to learn more about mini-retirements?”
This is the answer you’ll get:
